We are looking for a skilled individual to join our team as a Warehouse Shipping Supervisor!
Job Summary
Manages coordination of the flow of products manufactured internally or by third parties to customers, and develops enhancements to optimize manpower fulfilling daily shipping requirements. Directs, coordinates, and supervises the overall warehouse activities of the shipping/receiving department in shipping materials and/or receiving products in a union environment.
Develops and maintains a quality control process within span of control and utilizes the quarantine area for non-conforming products.
Essential Functions:
- Adhere to the company’s safety program to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment.
- Supervise a department of 5 or more subordinates across two shifts.
- Communicate departmental and plant-wide goals effectively to employees.
- Develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observe workers for compliance.
- Oversee receiving, staging, picking, packing, shipping, inventory management, and documentation to ensure accuracy and condition of shipments.
- Optimize layouts, workflows, manpower, and warehouse space utilization.
- Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS), Oracle ERP, or other systems to track and analyze processes and performance.
- Enter data into Oracle ERP related to shipments.
- Discipline, coach, and train employees.
- Communicate effectively within the organization and proactively resolve issues.
- Coordinate with Shipping Clerk to schedule pickups with customers and carriers to meet STP targets.
- Manage the movement of materials to storage/delivery locations, ensuring timely loading and departure of trucks.
- Resolve worker grievances or escalate unresolved issues.
- Participate in Lean Daily Management processes.
- Conduct regular inventory reconciliation and ensure stock availability.
- Lead inventory events, including cycle counts and physical inventories, and perform RCCA on discrepancies.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:
- Lead by example with results-driven attitude.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Windows environment, Excel, and Word.
- Knowledge of inventory control and optimization.
- Understanding of OSHA standards and safety management.
- Experience with warehouse control and ERP systems (Oracle).
- Floor scanning into Oracle, truck loading, skids capacity, weights, cross-border shipments.
- Experience with inventory cycle counts and quarantine procedures.
Education and Experience:
- 4 to 6 years of experience in a high-volume distribution shipping role.
- Understanding of ERP/MRP systems; Oracle preferred.
- Strong critical thinking, monitoring, personnel management, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- High school diploma required; 4+ years of Canadian supervisory experience in a union warehouse environment preferred.
- Ability to work in Canada without sponsorship or immigration restrictions.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level can be loud. Physical demands include sitting, climbing, stooping, lifting objects up to 25 pounds, and specific vision abilities.
