The Stores section of the City’s Purchasing Department, is currently seeking a Warehouse Attendant to join our team in a term role for 1 year, with the possibility of extension. This position provides a variety of assistance and services to our customers regarding our Stores inventories; and will continue to evolve to meet the business demands of our growing organization. This is an opportunity for an individual who excels in a busy environment where teamwork, collaboration, and dedication to providing a high level of customer service are key.

The Opportunity

As our successful team member, you will meet with our various City customer groups to determine priorities and specifications regarding materials they require. This will include reading and interpreting schematic diagrams, manuals, catalogue information, etc.; and determining appropriate transportation methods to expedite delivery of materials. You will use your seasoned warehouse experience to coordinate pickup and delivery of materials with trucking, courier companies and vendors, and prepare bills of lading. You will unload, unpack, and inspect materials -- checking packing slips against stock received loads – and move, store, and record the locations of materials within the warehouse, entering information into various databases. You will issue or transfer materials to customers or other warehouse locations and indicate part numbers, descriptions, quantities, and codes on Stock Issue & Equipment Repair order sheets.

Additional Related Duties Will Include

  • Recommending when inventory levels need to be changed, substitutions made, or new items be stocked
  • Reconciling discrepancies and damage with vendors, trucking and courier companies, Accounts Payable and procurement staff
  • Returning incorrect stock and obsolete parts
  • Receiving, categorizing, and storing reusable stock and salvage
  • Performing stocktaking and cycle counts; investigating & reconciling discrepancies
  • Completing housekeeping duties to maintain the warehouse in a clean, tidy, and safe condition; and keeping parts catalogues and other reference materials current
  • Operating materials handling equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Ensuring the security of the warehouse and reporting any safety issues to management
  • Assisting with mailroom and courier duties, as required
  • Driving a light truck to pick up and deliver materials when required
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Your Professional Experience And Skillset

  • Self-directed and motivated, with reliable, consistent customer service that is timely and responsive
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and exercise teamwork
  • Experience in parts, warehousing, and inventory control methods within the past 5 years
  • Proficient experience dealing with suppliers and transportation service providers
  • Knowledge of mechanical parts, catalogues, distributors, and dealers
  • Knowledge of City purchasing and requisitioning procedures
  • Current certifications in:
  • Forklift operator training
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
  • Parts technician ticket or equivalent considered an asset
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with inventory systems & databases
  • Physical strength and agility to meet the demands of the work and successfully carry out duties
  • Successful communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to coordinate assigned work within the team
  • Proficient record keeping skills
  • A valid Class 5 Operator’s license

Desired Qualifications

  • Working familiarity with modern ERP systems; experience with JD Edwards, will be considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain or other relevant certifications, such as Warehousing, Journeyman Parts Technician, Apprentice Parts Technician, SCMP, SMT or equivalent

WAGE:$32.31 per hour

TERM: 1 year, with possibility of extension
