Job summary

AppleOne Employment Services seeks an experienced Intermediate or Senior Civil Engineer to serve as the Professional of Record for civil designs supporting electrical distribution projects in British Columbia. The role requires leadership, technical oversight, and accountability for underground utility civil works delivered in coordination with BC Hydro and municipalities.

This permanent, hybrid position is based in New Westminster, with travel within BC.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• Registered Professional Engineer (EGBC) in good standing.
• Minimum five years of civil engineering experience supporting electrical distribution utility infrastructure.
• Minimum five years of direct experience in design and delivery of underground electrical distribution civil works.
• Proficiency using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or provincial equivalent).
• Experience acting as Civil Engineer of Record or Professional of Record on BC Hydro projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Professional of Record for civil engineering deliverables for electrical distribution utility projects.
• Review, approve, and seal designs in accordance with EGBC standards.
• Perform engineering calculations, design reviews, and constructability assessments.
• Ensure designs comply with BC Hydro standards, municipal requirements, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
• Prepare and review engineering reports, technical memoranda, permit submissions, and design criteria documents.
• Oversee designers and junior engineers involved in project delivery.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of drawings, calculations, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with BC Hydro representatives, municipalities, regulatory agencies, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Provide technical support during construction, including field reviews and responses to RFIs.
• Support project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, and risk management activities.
• Participate in project meetings and technical reviews as required.
• Travel within British Columbia as needed to support project needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience acting as Civil Engineer of Record or Professional of Record on BC Hydro projects.
• Demonstrated experience applying BC Hydro standards, specifications, and utility engineering requirements.
• Experience coordinating with municipalities, permitting authorities, contractors, and utility stakeholders.
• Experience supporting BC Hydro Distribution Capital Programs.
• Experience performing field reviews and construction support services.
• Working knowledge of MMCD standards and municipal permitting processes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of New Westminster, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $150000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
