Job summary

United Parcel Service, Inc. is hiring for a Preload Package Handler in Thorold, Ontario. The role involves loading and organizing packages, following load charts, and preparing trucks for delivery in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

The shift typically runs Monday–Friday with early start times, and overtime may apply based on volume. The position offers group benefits after some service time, with progression through union agreements and opportunities to move into other roles as you gain

Qualifications

• Ability to read and memorize postal codes.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
• Comfortable working inside truck trailers and package delivery vehicles and staying longer than the usual shift hours depending on the operational needs and shipment volume.

Responsibilities

• Loading packages onto UPS delivery trucks by hand.
• Following load charts to sort and organize packages based on the order of delivery.
• Loading 2-4 trucks at one time and ensuring the proper packages are loaded onto the right delivery trucks.
• Learning UPS package handling procedures and methods.
• Working in the UPS warehouse – hot and cold temperatures.
• Working in a very fast paced position which is physically demanding.

Job Description

Preload Package Handlers play a very important role at UPS. You will be responsible for loading and organizing UPS trucks and getting them ready for delivery. In this general labour type role your responsibilities will include scanning unloading loading packages from UPS trailers and sorting packages on UPS package cars based on the delivery area. This is a fast paced physically demanding job.

Preload Shift

Monday to Friday (5 days a week) Shift start and finish times will vary depending on daily volume. If the volume is projected to be high then the sort/shift starts earlier. Shift start time will range between 02:00 - 04:00 AM Shift will finish 5 hours after your start time Flexibility with start and finish times required. Overtime is calculated after 5 hours.

Compensation

$18.50 per hour Guaranteed wage progression in Union Collective Agreement - Top rate of $30.09 per hour after 90 working days plus 48 months of service Paid weekly every Friday Health, dental and vision care benefits after one year of service Immediate access to employee discounts Promotion from within.
