Job summary

Imperial is seeking an Onsites Process Operator in Canada to safely operate process and plant equipment, start up and shut down production, monitor and control processes, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

You will join one of four shift teams, work with maintenance and quality control, and pursue the required operating engineering certification, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and safe, efficient operation.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Chemical or Mechanical Technology or equivalent in petrochemical context.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 3rd Class Stationary Engineer certificate; 2nd Class preferred for boiler house/utilities area.

Job Role Description

The Onsites Process Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of process and / or plant equipment in industrial settings. This role involves starting up, shutting down, monitoring and controlling production processes, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Operators play a key role in maintaining product quality and consistency, and they work closely with quality control and maintenance teams to address any issues that arise. They are also involved in the continuous improvement of process efficiency and the implementation of best practices to enhance overall plant performance.

Job Role Responsibilities
  • Ensuring the safety of yourself and coworkers while performing tasks
  • Monitoring the operation and equipment for deviations and troubleshooting when required
  • Inspecting, and adjusting, equipment and process variables to maintain a safe and environmentally sound operation
  • Ensuring equipment is operated efficiently while maintaining a high degree of reliability and product quality
  • Maintaining process equipment through preventative maintenance

As a Process Operator you will join one of our four shift teams and follow the rotating shift schedule. You'll have the opportunity to interact with and learn from experienced technicians and other groups within the refinery including the maintenance and technical departments. You will be required to complete the progression and training requirements of your division, including the mandatory requirement to obtain the necessary operating engineering certification.

About you
Skills and Qualification
  • Chemical or Mechanical Technologist diploma or an equivalent combination of formal education and petrochemical industry experience in the judgment of management.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Skills and Experience/Qualifications
  • Minimum 3rd Class Stationary Engineer certificate or equivalent. Preferred 2nd Class Stationary Engineer certificate for placement into the site’s boiler house/utilities area
  • Able to respond in stressful situations, emergency response training considered an asset
  • Sound reasoning ability with a high level of self-initiative and a strong desire to learn
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge and skills with computer applications
  • Valid driver's license is required for this position
  • Able to meet the essential physical demands of the position as per job demands analysis
