About the Organization

Location : Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Duration : Minimum 4 weeks

Start Dates : Monthly, please inquire when applying.

Cost : $500 for the first week + $350 per additional week

Fee Includes : All food, accommodation, pre-departure and in-country support, orientation, and project activities.

Does Not Include : Flights, airport pickup, travel insurance, personal expenses, visas, vaccinations.

Introduction

The Galapagos Islands are renowned for their biodiversity, hosting species like Galapagos penguins and giant tortoises. Challenges include food insecurity, reliance on imports, invasive species, and lack of native seed preservation.

This internship offers collaboration with a farm pioneering autonomous, resilient, chemical-free, regenerative, and profitable agriculture in the Galapagos. It is also an agro-ecology school and hosts the first local seed bank of edible native species.

Potential Activities

  • Maintain vegetable seedbeds and assist with seed germination and seed bank management.
  • Design and construct permaculture systems and garden maintenance.
  • Reforest native plants and conduct research on water conservation, soil health, pest control, etc.
  • Support marketing and social media efforts.
  • Language exchange with staff and community members (English / Spanish).
