Job summary

The Canadian National Institute for the Blind in Ontario seeks a Trainer, Puppy Development to run a puppy-raising club, recruit and support Puppy Raisers, and provide healthy, trainable dogs for guide dog development. This role reports to the Manager, Early Canine Development and supports CNIB’s public image and mission.

The trainer will organize training classes, monitor puppies’ development, maintain records, coordinate venues, and travel monthly to locations outside the province.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
• Ability to work with dogs and walk long distances.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel monthly.
• Eligibility to work in Canada and meet training program requirements.
• Experience in supervision, teaching or mentoring is valued.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, interview and select Puppy Raisers and boarders.
• Train and support volunteers in puppy-raising careers.
• Assess and record puppies’ social, educational and temperamental development.
• Plan and conduct training classes and arrange venues.
• Identify issues and refer for review; document health concerns.
• Investigate complaints and accidents per Health and Safety policies.
• Act as CNIB ambassador and support the organization’s mission.
