Job summary

Role: The Fitness Assistant Volunteer plays an important role in supporting the smooth operation of a fitness center by maintaining fitness equipment, ensuring cleanliness and organization, and providing assistance to customers as needed. This volunteer position contributes to creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for fitness center users.

Reports to: Department Manager & Volunteer Coordinator

Time Commitments:

This position requires 4 hours per week commitment. Shifts are 1-4 hours in length and typically scheduled on weekday afternoons from 4:00PM to 10:00PM.

What You’ll Do:
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks for fitness equipment, including cleaning, inspection. Ensure all equipment is in proper working condition and report any issues or concerns to the appropriate staff members.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic fitness center environment by regularly cleaning and sanitizing fitness equipment, exercise mats, weights, and other related areas. Follow established cleaning protocols and guidelines.
  • Assist in organizing and arranging fitness equipment, ensuring proper storage and efficient utilization of space. Ensure that all equipment is returned to its designated area after use.
  • Provide coverage at the fitness desk as needed. Greet customers, answer inquiries, hand out equipment, and direct them to appropriate areas or staff members. Assist with laundry turnover.
  • Set up and take down recreational equipment (e.g. Volleyball nets) and special events.
What You’ll Need:
  • Interest in Kinesiology, fitness or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to maintain cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Attention to detail to identify equipment maintenance needs and ensure cleanliness standards are met.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and staff members with friendly, approachable demeanor, and excellent customer service skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality to fulfill scheduled shifts and commitments.
  • This position does require occasional heavy lifting and volunteers must be able to lift up to 50lbs and assist in moving heavy sport equipment.
