Job Overview:

The position of Volunteer Coordinator has primary responsibility in developing, implementing, maintaining, and growing an exemplary volunteer program to further develop the programs that Terra provides. In addition to operational support to individual and group volunteers, this position is also responsible for identifying and cultivating opportunities and relationships for the community to participate in the Terra mission. The ability to engage and inspire individuals and form supportive relationships is key to being successful in this role. You are a relationship-builder, team player with an aptitude to learn, a willingness to contribute, and a passion for making a difference in the community.

Job Conditions:

The position will be working primarily out of Terra’s main office located at 10320-146 Street with occasional travel to other Terra sites within Edmonton as needed to meet and support volunteers. This is a full-time (35 hours/week) position requiring flexible hours based on events and volunteer activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a leader and ambassador of Terra Centre for Teen Parents by practicing in a manner that is consistent with Terra’s mission, vision, values, policies, strategic goals, and practice model.
  • Participate in the annual performance review process.
  • Effectively recruit, engage, orientate, and steward individual and group volunteers; actively promote the volunteer program internally and externally to gain community support of the program and the organization.
  • Community engagement: take initiative to develop and deepen community relationships to grow group volunteer base and community engagement opportunities, including gift-in-kind initiatives.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify and provide long-term volunteer opportunities to enrich Terra’s program delivery for our young families.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records in Raiser’s Edge database and conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers; implement improvements as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to volunteer policies and procedures to maintain best practices.
  • Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization.
  • Collect data, measure outcomes, and complete evaluation and reporting activities as required using Raiser’s Edge database.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Certificate in Volunteer Management or related field.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience working with and supervising volunteers in a non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing volunteers to enhance programs and services within a non-profit organization.
  • Self-starter and ability to develop positive and effective relationships with diverse volunteers and members of the community.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism, tact, and interpersonal skills to work with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver results.
  • Commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personal information.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Previous fund development and event planning experience is a plus.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Effectively and respectfully works with others who have diverse traditions, beliefs, interpersonal styles, attitudes, and behaviors.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, if required.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.

Other requirements:

  • Police Information Check (including vulnerable Sector Check) and Child and Youth Intervention Check, completed within the last 90 days prior to start date. Processing times may take several weeks to complete these checks. Results will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate various appliances and equipment. Ability to lift between 25-50 lbs.
  • Reliable vehicle, with 1 million vehicle liability insurance, when driving for business purposes.
  • Valid Driver’s License, clear (or Director approved) Driver’s Abstract, current vehicle registration.

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience, the starting salary for the position is $47,866 – $53,563 annually.

Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution. Staff have three weeks of vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas and New Years.

Terra Centre also offers free onsite or street parking depending on office location. We are also a casual business attire organization.
