The Volunteer Coordinator will develop, manage, and enhance our volunteer program across Kelowna communities, fostering vibrant and supportive environments for seniors.

About The Role

You will work closely with chaplains, care teams, and local churches to coordinate volunteer placements that meet residents’ spiritual, physical, and social needs. This role emphasizes Christian ministry and leadership, requiring someone who embodies Baptist Housing’s Christian values of compassion, honesty, respect, innovation, stewardship, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Leadership & Christian Ministry:

  • Demonstrate servant leadership by modeling Jesus Christ’s values in all interactions.
  • Foster a culture aligned with Baptist Housing’s Christian mission and vision.
  • Provide spiritual care, including prayers, devotionals, or worship activities, as needed.

Volunteer Program Development:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate volunteer programs to meet residents’ needs.
  • Coordinate volunteer schedules and placements with care teams and chaplains.
  • Provide reports on program effectiveness and suggest improvements based on data.

Volunteer Recruitment & Screening:

  • Recruit volunteers from local churches for spiritual care services.
  • Oversee screening processes, including reference checks and interviews.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities through outreach, newsletters, and media.

Volunteer Training and Support:

  • Orient and train volunteers on their roles, Baptist Housing’s values, and safety protocols.
  • Provide ongoing support, conflict resolution, and feedback.
  • Coordinate with chaplains for spiritual care volunteer training.

Volunteer Retention and Recognition:

  • Organize recognition events and analyze feedback for program improvement.
  • Suggest additional training or development opportunities.

Team Collaboration and Support:

  • Work with care teams to ensure volunteer roles complement holistic resident care.
  • Promote health and safety by identifying hazards and enforcing safe practices.
  • Build relationships with internal teams, partners, and communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or related post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years in volunteer management, preferably in senior care or faith-based settings.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Own transportation and willingness to travel within Kelowna communities.
  • Agreement to Baptist Housing’s Statement of Faith.

About You

You are a compassionate Christian leader passionate about serving seniors and supporting volunteers. You possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, and can inspire others through Christian ministry to provide exceptional care.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly wage: $26.50 - $28.00. Benefits include health and dental coverage, four weeks of vacation, RRSP matching, and professional development support.
