Job summary

New West Music in New Westminster, BC is seeking a kind, creative Voice Instructor to teach private voice to children and some teens/adults. You’ll join a busy, family-focused studio with a pre-established teaching schedule and a welcoming team.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching voice to young students, is adaptable across styles, and excels at building rapport with families. This part-time role offers in-person lessons with potential for higher pay for mobile sessions and growth

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching voice to children or equivalent
  • Patience, structure, and warmth when teaching young children
  • Versatility across multiple vocal styles (classical, pop, rock, etc.)
  • Professional: punctual, prepared, and consistent
  • Clear communication with parents and staff about progress
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to different personalities and learning styles
  • Willing to commit to a minimum 1-year term

Responsibilities

  • Teach private voice lessons to children (and some teens/adults)
  • Create personalized lesson plans based on each student’s goals and learning style
  • Keep lessons engaging, structured, and progress-focused
  • Teach a variety of styles (classical, pop, rock, musical theatre, jazz)
  • Communicate clearly with parents about progress and practice goals
  • Collaborate with staff to support student retention and success
  • Support students in performances and recitals

What you’ll do
  • Teach private voice lessons to children (and some teens/adults)

Must-have qualifications
  • Experience teaching voice (formal training or equivalent teaching experience)
  • Strong ability to teach young children with patience, structure, and warmth
  • Versatility across multiple vocal styles
  • Dependable and professional: punctual, prepared, and consistent
  • Good communication with parents and staff
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to different personalities and learning styles
  • Willing to commit to a minimum 1-year term
Strong assets (preferred)
  • Familiarity with RCM curriculum and teaching toward examinations
  • Solid music theory knowledge
  • Ability to transcribe/arrange/adapt simple songs for student requests
  • Comfort accompanying students or using piano in lessons
  • Experience preparing students for performances
  • Ability to teach a second instrument at a beginner-intermediate level piano preferably (or ukulele, guitar, drums, etc.)
  • Experience working in a music school or studio environment
