Job description

Vocational Specialist - Permanent Full Time

Based in Fort McMurray, AB, the Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist will be responsible for working with clients to assess skills, organize and facilitate training, identify training and employment opportunities, and assist clients with their job search activities. A successful candidate will have experience developing career plans, be knowledgeable in working with vulnerable populations, be comfortable facilitating and instructing in a group-learning setting, be familiar with the Alberta labour market, and have the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Duties / Responsibilities :

• Providing career and employment counseling to Albertans returning to employment
• Facilitating essential skills, employment preparation, and occupational skills workshops
• Conducting assessments to determine employment history, education, experience, transferrable skills, and employment barriers
• Completing resumes, cover letters, and conducting mock interviews
• Conducting labour market research
• Ensuring sustainability in job placement; providing support to participants and employers to maintain employment
• Assessing individual needs, barriers, and developing service plans
• Connecting participants with community resources through the Government of Alberta, Federal Government Services, and local agencies
• Timely report writing following current templates and standards
• Record keeping and maintaining files

Minimum Qualifications :

• University Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences or related fields such as Kinesiology, Community Rehabilitation, Vocational Rehabilitation, Psychology, Social Work, Education, etc.
• Designations or willingness to obtain: CCRC, CRC, CVE, or RRP, with membership in the Vocational Rehabilitation Association in Canada considered an asset.
• Experience in career and employment counseling and job development/placement
• Proficiency in French is an asset
• Understanding of cultural diversity
• Strong knowledge of the Alberta labour market and educational programming
• Case management experience is an asset
• Sensitivity to learning limitations
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills
• Knowledge of social media platforms and job search sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Glassdoor, Indeed, CareerBuilder
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Security background check required
• Availability to work evenings and/or weekends
