Job description

Overview

We're seeking knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated vocational rehabilitation professionals to join our team. As a key member of the case management team, you will support workers in achieving successful rehabilitation and sustainable return-to-work outcomes through collaborative and client-centred case management.

We have Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant opportunities available in our Courtenay, Kamloops, Port Moody, Richmond, and Surrey offices.

How you'll make a difference

You'll provide compassionate, supportive service to people injured at work.

Working at WorkSafeBC

We serve the workers and employers across B.C., and we do that best when we're together. It's how we collaborate, learn from one another, and develop our people.

This role is currently designated as having a hybrid work arrangement.

This is a unionized role and is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement between the Workers' Compensation Board of BC and the Compensation Employees' Union.

This role is based in your assigned office.

Like everything we do, our work model continues to evolve to support those we serve. We remain committed to a primarily in-office model that strengthens our culture and helps us deliver our best work, while balancing flexibility and a positive employee experience.

What you'll do
  • Assess the impact of workers' injuries on their employment potential and determine what vocational rehabilitation benefits they're entitled to
  • Provide vocational counselling and create rehabilitation and return-to-work plans
Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for people who can:

  • Assess employment barriers and provide vocational counseling to develop suitable return-to-work and vocational rehabilitation plans that may include work assessments, on-the-job training, formal training, job search and self-employment support, and job development activities
  • Use sound judgment to weigh evidence, interpret policy, and apply discretion to determine eligibility and entitlement to vocational rehabilitation programs and services
  • Apply organizational and decision-making skills to manage a complex, high-volume caseload
  • Establish and maintain collaborative, professional relationships with various stakeholders, including injured workers, employers, and community health care providers
  • Accurately manage rehabilitation expenditures
  • Mediate and negotiate effectively to help achieve positive outcomes

Your background and experience

  • A relevant professional designation is preferred. This includes Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP), Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor/Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor (CRC/CCRC), Canadian Certified Vocational Evaluator (CCVE), and Return to Work Disability Manager (RTWDM)
  • An understanding of disability management and return-to-work principles and practices and vocational or psycho-vocational tests in the context of vocational rehabilitation
  • A valid BC driver's license and the ability to travel throughout the province and stay overnight is required

We'll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Important to know

Before we can finalize any offer of employment, you must:

  • Successfully meet the legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act to work with children and/or vulnerable adults
  • Confirm you're legally entitled to work in Canada
