VOCATIONAL COUNSELLOR
About the Role
As a Vocational Counsellor, you will provide comprehensive support to participants with disabilities seeking competitive paid employment in an integrated community setting. Working closely with community and referring staff, you will ensure the integration of vocational skills into the workforce.
Your responsibilities include engagement, ongoing assessment, and the development and implementation of vocational plans. You will offer support through one-on-one or group counselling, job marketing, independent job searches, and onsite coaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain caseloads for all participants.
- Coordinate marketing and outreach to community agencies, organizations, and employers.
- Develop relationships with employers across various industries for successful job placements.
- Create job seeker profiles, resumes, and proposals.
- Provide onsite job coaching and ongoing support at the workplace.
- Assess vocational functioning and facilitate vocational planning with participants and professionals.
- Conduct job development and direct marketing activities.
- Identify job openings aligned with participants’ skills and interests.
- Develop self-employment strategies if appropriate.
- Coordinate participant intake and program orientation.
- Stay current on labor market trends and job search strategies.
- Complete required reports and documentation.
- Coordinate participant departure, including file closures and referrals.
- Attend meetings, community functions, and deliver service activities.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in health or social services or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience working with people with disabilities.
- Experience in marketing and networking.
- Knowledge in business management and community relationship building.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Share Vision.
- Current First-Aid and CPR Level C certifications.
- Physician’s assessment of fitness to work.
- Criminal record and MCFD HUB clearance.
- Valid Class 4 Driver's License, access to a vehicle, and ability to travel.
- Ability to work calmly in stressful and crisis situations.
- Knowledge of program development, safety, employment settings, and supporting individuals.
- Flexibility to work shifts and varied hours.
