Job description

VOCATIONAL COUNSELLOR

About The Role

As a Vocational Counsellor, you will provide comprehensive support to participants with disabilities seeking competitive paid employment in an integrated community setting. Working closely with community or other referring staff, you will facilitate the integration of vocational skills into the workforce. Your responsibilities include engagement, ongoing assessment, and the development and implementation of vocational plans. You will offer a range of supports, including one-to-one or group counselling, direct job marketing to employers, independent job search support, and onsite job coaching.

You will

  • Manage and maintain caseloads for all assigned participants
  • Coordinate and conduct marketing and outreach activities to community agencies, organizations, and employers
  • Engage participants and build trusting relationships aimed at achieving competitive employment
  • Develop relationships with employers across industries for successful job placements
  • Create job seeker profiles, resumes, and proposals
  • Provide onsite job coaching for orientation and training
  • Offer ongoing support and training at the job site, via telephone, and through group support meetings
  • Assess vocational functioning in collaboration with participants, support workers, and professionals, and facilitate vocational planning
  • Conduct job development, direct marketing, and job search activities aligned with participant needs and interests
  • Identify job openings suited to individual skills and abilities
  • Develop self-employment strategies if appropriate
  • Coordinate participant intake and orientation in collaboration with PCCR staff
  • Stay updated on local labor market trends and effective job search strategies
  • Complete required reports and documentation
  • Manage participant departure processes, including file closures and referrals
  • Attend meetings and community functions, and speak to local business groups
  • Deliver service activities to meet contractual deliverables
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health or social services or equivalent
  • At least 1 year experience working with people with disabilities
  • Experience in marketing and networking
  • Background in business management
  • Strong community relationships with potential employers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook, and knowledge of Share Vision
  • Confidentiality practices
  • Current First-Aid and CPR Level C Certification
  • Satisfactory criminal record and HUB clearance
  • Valid Class 4 Driver's License, access to a vehicle, and ability to travel
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and problem-solve creatively
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and respectfully
  • Teamwork and crisis management skills
  • Knowledge of program development and safety protocols
  • Flexibility to work shifts and varied hours
