South Shore Regional Centre for Education

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach, providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

The position involves teaching Vis Arts 10 (three sections), Visual Arts 12 (one section), Mi'kmaw Studies 11 (one section), Global Sustainability Studies 12 (one section), and providing support for MTSS Blocks (368 mins) and Backfill / MTSS In-class Support (528 mins). The role is based at Liverpool Regional High, with reports to the School Administrator.

Responsibilities:

The Senior High Teacher will teach and support students within the SSRCE, working within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University Major or Minor in Visual Arts
    • OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching at least 50% Visual Arts within the last seven (7) years, with positive performance appraisals and/or references
  • University education in Social Studies
    • OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching at least 50% Social Studies within the last seven (7) years, with positive performance appraisals and/or references

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional development in Visual Arts and Social Studies
  • Experience teaching grades 9-12
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams
  • Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy and understanding of developmental trauma
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development
  • Ability to develop and monitor individualized programs and strategies
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention
  • Experience in training and professional learning development
  • Ability to work with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds and value contributions of others
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid or willingness to obtain
