Job description

Job Description:

Arterra Wines Canada and our Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Winery is a full-service operation from harvest through to final distribution; operating year-round and producing some of the industry’s most awarded wines. As a Vintage Cellar Hand, you will work closely with our Winemaking team during the harvest season in the creation of our award-winning BC VQA wines.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Grape processing: Grape and juice reception, destemming, crushing, and pressing.
  2. Fermentation management: Inoculations, nutrient additions, sampling, pump overs, punch downs, sugar monitoring, and digging out of fermenters.
  3. Cellar work: Barrel work, racking, product transfers, product blending, and product additions.
  4. Cellar sanitation: Tank & barrel cleaning, and general cleaning of facility and winery equipment.
  5. Follow all safety procedures as directed by standard operating procedures.
  6. Work order completion and compliance.
  7. Safe operation of cellar forklift and other winery equipment (training provided).
  8. Inventory control.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. High school diploma minimum
  2. Strong commitment to quality with attention to detail
  3. Strong team player
  4. Good problem-solving abilities along with basic logistic skills required
  5. Ability to work shifts/weekends
  6. Knowledge of safe cellar practices, including safe handling of chemicals
  7. Ability to be trained in confined space entry and forklift operation
  8. Knowledge of winery cellar operating procedures
  9. Ability to understand and perform mathematic calculations
  10. Ability to lift 55 lbs.
  11. Ability to work at heights

Additional Information

  1. Limited staff accommodation is possible for duration of Harvest
  2. Your own transportation is required
  3. You will need a valid work permit for Canada (Canadian Working Holiday Visa) - No labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) will be undertaken
  4. Target dates for employment would be August 18th to October 31st
