Job summary

Corus Entertainment Inc. in Canada is seeking a full-time Videographer for the Global Durham news team to generate engaging content for broadcast and online, primarily on weekdays with possible evenings and weekends.

The role reports to the News Director and is a Group 3 position under the current collective agreement. You will pitch ideas, shoot, write, produce, and edit stories while meeting tight deadlines and using graphics to enhance storytelling.

Qualifications

  • Experience in generating, writing, and editing news stories.
  • Proficient with camera operation and non-linear editing.
  • Ability to meet multiple daily deadlines and adapt to breaking news.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Generate, pitch, and produce original news stories for broadcast and online.
  • Shoot, write, and edit stories for Global Durham and globalnews.ca.
  • Post updates online as stories are developed.
  • Enhance storytelling with production graphics and visuals.
  • Build a network of news contacts throughout the Durham region.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About the Role:

Global Durham is currently seeking a full-time Videographer to join the news team.

Reporting to the News Director, the successful candidate will be required to generate engaging content for broadcast and online, primarily on weekdays and can include evenings and weekends.

This is a Group 3 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:
  • Generating, and pitching original story ideas.
  • Chasing, writing, shooting, producing, and editing original news stories for Global Durham broadcast and globalnews.ca while meeting multiple daily deadlines.
  • Posting updates online as a story is being developed.
  • Creatively using production graphics and other visual elements to enhance storytelling.
  • Establishing and maintaining a network of news contacts throughout the Durham region.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and experience you will bring:
  • Previous work experience in broadcast and online journalism.
  • Post-secondary education in Broadcast Journalism, or related field.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills.
  • Camera experience and familiarity with non-linear editing.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing technology and workflows.
  • The ability to effectively solve problems and troubleshooting while dealing with the unexpected.
  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of tight deadlines and breaking news.
  • Proven ability as a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Great communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid class “G” driver’s license with clean driving abstract.
