Job summary

Rogers Communications, Inc. is seeking a Part-Time Video Journalist in Edmonton to join CityNews. You will produce, shoot, and edit compelling stories about Edmonton and surrounding communities, contributing to a 24/7 livestream and prime-time specials.

We value creativity, multi-platform coverage, and a self-starter attitude. This role requires evening/weekend availability, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Qualifications

• A passion for storytelling and ability to tell compelling stories.
• Ability to find original Edmonton-focused stories reflecting diverse communities.
• Experience in shooting and editing.
• Self-starter with a can-do attitude.
• Understanding of multi-platform coverage beyond a traditional TV package.
• Conversational live-reporting style.
• Ability to multi-task and meet multiple daily deadlines.
• Willing to work evenings and weekends.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Work with a dynamic team to produce creative stories capturing daily life in Edmonton.
• Develop original stories and shoot/edit them yourself.
• Deliver standout stories emphasizing creativity over traditional methods.
• Report for CityNews Alberta livestream, live or taped with anchor talkbacks.
• Provide original content for prime time news specials.

What you will do:

• Work with a dynamic team to produce creative stories which capture daily life in Edmonton
• Come up with original story ideas and produce original stories that you will shoot and edit.
• Deliver stories which will stand out from the competition, emphasizing creativity over traditional methods.
• Report for our 24/7 CityNews Alberta livestream. These are sometimes live, sometimes on tape and often include a talkback with our anchor.
• Provide original and enterprise content for our new prime time news specials.

What you will bring:

• A passion for storytelling - you know what makes a great story and know how to tell it.
• Ability to find original stories about people and issues which reflect Edmonton's exciting and diverse communities.
• Experience in shooting and editing.
• A self-starter with a can-do, solution-oriented attitude
• An understanding of multi-platform coverage, not confined by a 'typical' television reporter package.
• A conversational live-reporting style
• News moves fast! You must be able to multi-task and deliver for multiple daily deadlines
• Because news never stops - you are prepared to work evenings and weekends.
• Valid driver's licence and clean driving record.
