Victim Services Workers provides victims of crime with general court related information regarding the criminal justice system and offer emotional support, risk assessment, safety & protection planning and community referrals. The incumbent will be responsible for working with victims to guide them through the complexities of the Justice system, providing analysis, interpretation and assessment of victim needs and ensuring the appropriate intervention.

- Ability to Provide and Maintain Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search
- Ability to Provide and Maintain Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check
- Ability to travel within the service area for government business purposes, including various modes of transportation such as planes, boats, helicopters, etc.
- Valid Manitoba full stage Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a motor vehicle for work purposes.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- A Bachelor of Social Work degree or an equivalent related Social Sciences degree or equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Extensive case management experience in the social services field.
- Experience working with effects of trauma, grief and loss.
- Demonstrated experience working with victims of intimate partner violence or child abuse.
- Sound understanding of Indigenous culture and customs including history and justice related issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time- management skills.
- Ability to work in a high volume, high stress work environment
Desired:
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policies and procedures including Manitoba's Victims' Bill of Rights Act, and The Domestic Violence and Stalking Act.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) or equivalent software.
- Ability to read, write and verbally communicate fluently in French.
Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for interviewing, assessing and providing emotional support to counselling victims of intimate partner violence, child abuse and victims of the most serious crimes as defined within the designated offences regulation of The Victims’ Bill of Rights Act, The Domestic Violence and Stalking Act and other relevant provincial and federal legislation. The incumbent is also responsible for guiding their clients through the criminal justice system process. The incumbent provides assessments and short-term counselling which includes advising victims of their options, rights and responsibilities as victims of crime, while simultaneously enhancing the victim’s ability to make informed choices and increase their level of safety and the safety of those close to them.
