The Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Education Department is now accepting applications for the - school year to fill the following full-time term position based out of Sally Ross School in Hall Lake, SK :
Vice Principal / Learning Support Teacher
The Vice Principal will work collaboratively with the Principal and assist in the overall administration and operation of the school; and, in the absence of the Principal, assume the duties and responsibilities of the position. The position will consist of an approximate half-time between Administration and Learning Support Teacher duties.
The suitable candidates will be able to perform the following duties :
- Use appropriate teaching aides and techniques, in order to meet basic Saskatchewan curriculum standards;
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual needs of students;
- Attend staff / community / School Committee / parent-teacher meetings and in-service workshops to develop a greater understanding of community aspirations and improvement of personal teaching competencies;
- Develops the Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for special need students in consultation with teachers and collaborates with teachers and EAs for the delivery of IEPs
- Work collaboratively with school staff, parents / guardians, learning support coordinator and consultants.
- Provide direct services and resource support to designated students, as needed.
- Completes the referral process for those students requiring outside professional services once the process is initiated by the teacher
- Participate in operation of the school extracurricular program.
The suitable candidates will possess the following qualifications :
- Bachelor of Education degree and a Saskatchewan Professional A teaching certificate, however candidates with or currently seeking a Master’s Degree or Post-Graduate training will be given preference;
- Previous experience with administration of a First Nation school would be an asset;
- Some experience with budget control, school policies, student safety standards & H.R. management.
- Strong team player with a commitment to work with community members, education board, and administration team;
- High level of interpersonal skills with an ability to resolve conflicts objectively and with understanding;
- High level of written and communication skills
- Solid work ethic and flexibility with the occasion arises;
- Possess an appreciation for the desires and aspirations of First Nation people and empathy for First Nation children
- Must be willing to do home visits and address and support attendance needs
- Knowledge of the Early Years Evaluation (EYE) would be an asset;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
- Must be able to provide a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract, Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Screening;
- Must be able to provide verification of previous teaching experience (if applicable);
