Job description

The Supportive Environments and Experiences for Development (SEED) program is a national early childhood development (ECD) initiative coordinated by the Aga Khan Education Board for Canada. SEED targets parents and primary caregivers of Ismaili children from birth to four years of age. The program aims to support parents and families in engaging with their children's learning and development during the early years. Weekly group sessions facilitate experience-based activities for parents/caregivers and their children, promoting music and movement, early literacy, spirituality and faith-based activities, and school readiness. This posting specifically seeks a Vice Principal for the Downtown, Burnaby Lake, and Ismaili Centre Jamatkhanas.

About the Role

The SEED Vice Principal is responsible for the overall coordination and management of the SEED program at their Centre.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining positive relationships with families and volunteers within the Centre
  • Building rapport with Jamati Mukhi-Kamadia Sahebs and IVC leadership
  • Collaborating with the ITREB Pre-Primary / BUI Program at your Centre
  • Communicating program schedules to families and volunteers in a timely manner
  • Working with the ECD Member to ensure standardized regional procedures are followed for quality management and program delivery
  • Participating in monthly regional calls and providing updates
  • Recruiting and marketing to grow the volunteer base and expand the program
  • Ensuring the SEED space is respected and properly maintained during activities
  • Leaving the space clean and ready for other community services after activities

About You

  • Demonstrated leadership, team building, and problem-solving skills
  • Maturity, reliability, flexibility, and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Previous experience as a SEED facilitator is an asset but not required
  • Enthusiasm for working with young children
  • First aid training to be completed within 90 days of employment (preferred but not required)
  • Criminal background check to be completed within 90 days of employment (cost covered by employer)
