Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Tax Leadership: Develop and oversee RBI’s Canadian tax department to optimize the company’s tax position while ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
  2. Tax Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure the company meets all tax compliance obligations, including federal, provincial, and international tax filings and payments.
  3. Tax Planning & Optimization: Identify and implement tax-efficient structures and strategies to support business growth and expansion, including M&A transactions, reorganizations, and cross-border tax structuring.
  4. Regulatory & Legislative Monitoring: Keep abreast of tax law changes and assess their impact on RBI’s financial and operational strategy.
  5. Internal & External Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with finance, legal, and business teams to integrate tax considerations into corporate decision-making.
  6. Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the tax team to enhance capabilities, efficiency, and engagement.
  7. Liaison with Authorities & Advisors: Manage relationships with tax authorities, external advisors, and auditors, ensuring proper representation and resolution of tax matters.
  8. Financial Reporting & Tax Accounting: Oversee Canadian tax provisions, disclosures, and reporting for financial statements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • CPA, CA, or equivalent professional designation required.
  • 15+ years of progressive tax experience, with a strong background in corporate and international taxation.
  • Experience in the restaurant, retail, or consumer goods industry is preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute complex tax strategies in a multinational business environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a high-performing team.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with senior executives and external advisors.
  • Hands-on experience with tax technology and financial systems.
  • This is a Toronto-based position requiring 4 days in the office per week.
