Our Real Estate Management Office is hiring a Vice President, Real Estate Management. This executive leadership role provides strategic direction and oversight for the development, implementation, and performance of Metrolinx’s corporate real estate strategy. The Vice President is accountable for managing a broad portfolio of initiatives and services, including oversight of real estate leases and dispositions, easements, and related agreements, as well as the operation and administration of Metrolinx’s real estate assets. All activities are aligned with the organization’s overall business objectives. This role also involves managing critical relationships and leading complex negotiations with senior government officials, real estate industry leaders, and community stakeholders.
What will I be doing?
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Real Estate Management (REM) business unit.
- Develop, implement, and oversee the performance of Metrolinx’s corporate real estate strategy, initiatives, and services.
- Manage the Real Estate Asset Management function by maximizing portfolio performance based on feasibility and market analysis, aligning with Metrolinx objectives; identifying and mitigating risks; communicating performance metrics, KPIs, and market research; implementing technology and data integration; and monitoring contracts.
- Oversee property management, transactions, and administration functions, ensuring land is purchased, leased, or disposed of in accordance with strategy; negotiating agreements; addressing legal issues; reviewing contractor performance; and managing leasing and licensing requirements.
- Manage real estate operations by ensuring administrative and maintenance services are performed; monitoring service providers; negotiating leases and licenses; planning and budgeting for office space; and coordinating workspace design needs.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, seeking shared opportunities and mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Coordinate with REM unit Leaders, Capital Projects Group (CPG), and Operations to align goals, identify needs and gaps, and ensure synergy across units.
- Lead strategic and operational planning for real estate and third-party development, advising on long-term planning and new initiatives.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, tools, and systems related to real estate portfolio management, ensuring they remain relevant through ongoing review and analytics.
- Oversee the development of integrated technology solutions for real estate portfolio management, providing a comprehensive and sustainable records system.
- Provide strategic thought leadership, aligning projects with corporate goals and fostering innovative solutions.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Expertise in large-scale real estate land management and transactions.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in property management or transactions, recognized as a leader with a broad network.
- Degree in Business Administration, Urban Planning, Real Estate, Economics, Environmental Studies, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of change management principles and experience managing large, complex teams.
- Strong relationship management, negotiation, collaboration, and influencing skills to engage with senior stakeholders across sectors.
- Leadership qualities, including interpersonal, presentation, communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Interpersonal skills and political acuity to navigate a highly political and sensitive environment.
- Ability to operate effectively in environments of ambiguity and change.
