Why this role is important?

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Healthcare Businesses, the incumbent provides overall leadership and coordination to a group of senior leaders responsible for managing all aspects of the brand and generic pharmaceutical portfolios at Shoppers Drug Mart and Loblaw, as well as Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance. The incumbent establishes budgets, identifies operational opportunities, improves efficiencies, develops strategic vision, promotes initiatives, and steers the business to achieve overall growth and increase profitability. The incumbent also has overall responsibility for the wholesale distribution of pharmaceuticals across the enterprise and for managing the Sanis business unit.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and monitors the annual strategy, and financial and operating plans for our brand and generic partnerships and Sanis.
  • Responsible for the strategic management of the annual multi- and common-year planning process for the pharmaceutical portfolio across the enterprise.
  • Establishes and sustains programs and relationships across the enterprise to ensure our brand and generic programs meet the needs of patients and pharmacists.
  • Manage all aspects of the Sanis private label business unit including product selection, supply chain management, market access, and QA/RA.
  • Manage the wholesale distribution function for pharmaceuticals across the enterprise including secondary supplier agreements.
  • Oversee the quality and regulatory team managing the enterprise pharmaceutical supply chain and Healthcare Businesses to ensure compliance with Health Canada requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to support stores in managing the generic and brand portfolio.
  • Establish, track, and hold individuals accountable for delivering financial performance, including sales, new launches, and industry performance. Develop talent to implement best practices.
  • Negotiate on sensitive issues related to pricing and distribution of pharmaceuticals across SDM and Loblaw retail pharmacy network.
  • Work with Finance and Legal to manage pharmaceutical portfolio and contracts.
  • Monitor market intelligence to predict demands, risks, and opportunities.
  • Guide the development of data collection, analysis, communication, and reporting processes to ensure accuracy.
  • Supervise workloads and staff to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with policies and standards.
  • Provide guidance, motivation, and performance reviews, including hiring and termination, to maintain and enhance team competency and performance.

Education & Job Knowledge:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Pharmacy, Healthcare, or equivalent; MBA is an asset.

Experience:

Over ten years of experience in pharmacy or healthcare, with relevant knowledge of retail and SDM operations.
