The Vice President, Operations leads the creation and execution of shared operational systems that support Marcon’s commercial functions. This executive role is critical to integrating and scaling key capabilities—including Safety, Quality, Customer Care, Procurement, and Project Services. By enabling excellence and high performance across our development and construction functions through effective shared operational systems, the Vice President, Operations drives greater synergy and collaboration across the business. This role also champions systems thinking, continuous improvement, and the implementation of modern project execution strategies.

About Marcon

Many people will spend their lives in a Marcon home, so we have to build it right, every time. Founded in 1985, Marcon is an established real estate company specializing in acquiring, developing, building and managing properties across Metro Vancouver. A focus on quality and craft is what the business was built on, giving us a trusted name in the construction community. These principles have remained a focus as we’ve expanded into the real estate development and operations space, managing our own projects from conception through to execution, completion, and more recently ongoing management.

We have a commitment to providing elevated experiences at every touch point between our people, our buildings, and our communities. None of this is possible without a hardworking team, working together, to make it all happen. That’s why we’re looking for people who are eager to join an intelligent and motivated team to create something bigger than themselves and build communities that will impact a neighbourhood in infinite ways.

About the role:

Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a core member of the Executive Leadership Team to define and execute organizational objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Champion and model enterprise-wide programs and initiatives, serving as an ambassador for Marcon’s values, systems, and strategic priorities. Ensure consistent adoption and alignment across the shared operations function, fostering a unified approach to culture, performance, and organizational growth.
  • Provide strategic leadership in designing scalable operations that enable Marcon's long-term growth objectives.
  • Partner with the EVP and function leaders to prioritize and implement enterprise-wide initiatives that improve operational leverage, agility, and performance.
  • Define strategic options and build consensus with stakeholders around the evolution and scalability of Marcon’s shared operating functions.
  • Create and maintain a long-term operational roadmap aligned with corporate strategic goals.

Operational Leadership

  • As the leader of Safety, Quality, Customer Care, Procurement and Project Services, establish and scale a shared services model that supports centralized, repeatable capabilities.
  • Design and execute service level standards and governance for shared operations.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of Marcon’s quality system and its integration into the end-to-end delivery model.
  • Transform the customer care function into a best-in-class service organization that delivers a differentiated homeowner and tenant experience.
  • Drive safety as a core organizational value and implement leading health and safety practices across all worksites.
  • Develop operational KPIs and detailed operational plans that support functional execution.
  • Manage people and budgets and grow high-performing operational talent and future leaders.

Systems Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead the development of process management systems that support repeatable project delivery, cross-functional collaboration, and vertically integrated operations.
  • Champion operational methodologies such as Takt planning, Last Planner System, and flow-based production systems to improve construction predictability, field coordination, and schedule adherence.
  • Partner with functional leaders to translate enterprise process strategies into site-level behaviours, training, and routines.
  • Identify areas for strategic improvement and develop business cases for technology adoption, automation, or structural transformation.
  • Oversee implementation and adoption of key operational platforms
  • Lead Project Services to ensure the shared operations initiatives, practices and standards are integrated effectively into the commercial functions
  • Guide structured change management efforts across functions to ensure successful adoption of new systems and ways of working.

About you:

  • Post-secondary degree in operations, engineering, or a related discipline; MBA or other graduate degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of executive-level operational leadership experience in large, complex organizations, with at least 5 years in the real estate development or construction sector.
  • Proven success in building and leading shared operational services that support multiple business units in a vertically integrated environment.
  • Strong track record of driving operational excellence and cross-functional performance improvements.
  • Experience leading HSE strategy and execution in field-based operational contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement Lean methods in a construction setting, including Takt planning, pull scheduling, or flow-based production systems.
  • Formal training in change management; Six Sigma Blackbelt or similar operational excellence certification is an asset.
  • Highly collaborative leader with strong communication skills and the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in an owner-operator environment is a strong asset
