Job description

Vice President (VP) of Finance – Equity-Based

Remote / Hybrid (Canada) | Equity-Only | Strategic Leadership Role

About Pocketride

Pocketride Inc. is Canada’s first AI-powered, rurban-focused ride-hailing platform. We’re on a mission to bring safe, affordable, and accessible mobility to underserved rural–urban (rurban) regions where Uber, Lyft, and similar platforms have no significant presence.

Thousands of users are already waitlisted, 100+ drivers are in our onboarding pipeline, and we’ve partnered with regional institutions, colleges, and compliance providers to make regulated, community-first transportation a reality.

With growing support from TechAlliance, Communitech, Innovation Factory, and a vibrant network of interns, VPs, and advisors — Pocketride is gearing up for a powerful launch.

About the Role

This is a senior leadership position focused on building Pocketride’s financial infrastructure and enabling long-term, scalable growth. You’ll work cross-functionally with the VPs of Growth, Tech, and HR, and serve as the financial authority across the company.

A key extension of your role includes overseeing insurance-related operations (including vendor costs, endorsements, liability structures), working directly with our Insurance Specialist, and coordinating with partners such as Zen Insurance.

This is a part-time, equity-based role, ideal for someone ready to take ownership, build from the ground up, and help prepare Pocketride for upcoming funding and expansion rounds.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Planning & Modeling
  • Build detailed financial models, forecasts, and scenario planning tools for product launch, expansion, and pricing decisions.
  • Analyze unit economics, customer acquisition costs, and long-term financial viability of business segments.
Reporting, Compliance & Governance
  • Develop and manage internal financial systems, including accounting processes, cost reporting, and investor updates.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, tax preparation, and vendor/payroll documentation in alignment with Canadian standards.
Capital & Insurance Oversight
  • Collaborate with the VP of Growth on financial readiness for grants, fundraising, and investor relations.
  • Oversee insurance-related operations, including policy budgeting, risk modeling, liability strategy, and working with insurance providers (e.g., Zen Insurance).
  • Help evaluate coverage levels for TNC endorsements, operational liabilities, and onboarding-related risk.
Operational & Cross-Functional Strategy
  • Support budgeting and financial decision-making across departments, from tech build to marketing spend to HR compliance.
  • Create dashboards and reporting systems (e.g., Power BI, QuickBooks, or custom financial trackers) to enable transparency.
  • Contribute to strategic roadmaps by presenting financial implications of operational decisions to the CEO and executive team.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Core Requirements:
  • 4–8 years of experience in financial leadership, corporate finance, investment banking, or startup finance.
  • Proven track record in building financial models, forecasts, and managing financial operations in lean teams.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian financial regulations, tax structures, and early-stage compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with accounting software, forecasting tools, and collaborative platforms (QuickBooks, Excel, Power BI, etc.).
Bonus Skills:
  • Prior exposure to insurance strategy or financial oversight of insurance operations.
  • Experience supporting ride-hailing, gig economy, or regulated tech platforms.
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or similar financial designation is highly preferred but not required.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias for execution and hands-on problem solving.
Why Join Pocketride?
  • Strategic Ownership: You will own the entire financial structure of a venture preparing for scale — your decisions will shape our funding, launch, and growth trajectory.
  • Equity-Based Leadership: Join as a core leader with long-term upside. We're lean by design and value creation is shared.
  • Direct Access to CEO: Collaborate closely with the Founder and our cross-functional VP team.
  • Fast-Paced Impact: We're not just building an app. We're building a transportation ecosystem that fills a massive gap in Canadian mobility.
  • Proven Traction: Backed by major Canadian innovation networks, with 3,000+ users waitlisted and active driver onboarding underway.
