Job Description
Responsibilities:
Market Research – Transaction Due Diligence
- Lead and oversee the commercial, market and regulatory due diligence for transactions, working closely with the investment team, other functional partners and external advisors.
- Develop detailed and comprehensive assessments of a target market, industry or company to support the investment process.
- Identify and assess potential market-related opportunities and risks that can affect the investment outlook for a transaction opportunity.
- Develop high-quality presentation materials and other supporting documents to articulate diligence findings to senior management and to support the overall investment process.
Market Research – Internal Thought Leadership
- Research, analyze and evaluate the longer-term outlook of focus sectors, identifying key changes in supply-demand fundamentals or emerging opportunities and risks for infrastructure investments in these sectors.
- Conduct thematic research to help frame the longer-term investment strategy.
- Develop in-depth understanding of focus sectors and become a trusted thought partner to senior executives evaluating those sectors.
- Evaluate the macroeconomic outlook and political risk of target sectors or investments.
Market Research – Business Development & Portfolio Management
- Work with the investment team in identifying new potential transaction opportunities.
- As requested, support Brookfield senior management with strategic reviews of portfolio companies and/or commercial-related elements of corporate strategy.
- As requested, support senior executives of portfolio companies with due diligence of M&A opportunities, new market opportunities or business development activities.
Requirements:
- University education and 5+ years of relevant experience
- Research Skills: demonstrated ability to conduct research from a wide variety of primary and secondary sources, and in the process, develop a compelling thesis on the future performance of a target industry, commodity, or company
- Stakeholder management: strong ability to work collaboratively and manage expectations with internal and external stakeholders
- Communication skills: excellent verbal and writing skills; experience crafting executive briefings for senior leaders
- Modeling: solid experience building financial and market models
- Data driven, intellectual curiosity: predisposition to explore and learn, acquire data, create, and test hypotheses in different verticals across different industries
- Organization skills: ability to prioritize, share information efficiently, meet deadlines and deliver in a multi-project, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and multiple parallel assignments
- Creativity / Entrepreneurship: ability to resolve new challenges, tackle new assignments without necessarily the benefit of ready-made templates
- Analytical: ability to distill key information from extensive research; ability to argue, summarize and illustrate analyses in a presentation format; ability to make the complex, simple
- Collaborative approach: collaborative and team oriented with strong leadership
- Disciplined, attention to detail: appreciation of detail in solving puzzles and presenting information
- Technical skills: very strong writing, PowerPoint, and Excel skills.
- Candidates with backgrounds in Utilities, Transport, Power, Data, Industrial/Commodities market consulting, or management consulting are strongly encouraged to apply.
Assets:
- Infrastructure and/or commodities market research experience: exposure to the Utilities, Transport, Power, Data, Industrial/Commodities industries would represent a significant asset but is not a requirement
- Data analytics skills: demonstrable skills in Python, R, SQL are not required but highly regarded
This position is based in Toronto, Ontario and will require travel, from time to time, dependent upon project/transaction dynamics.
