Job description

SAGA Diagnostics is a pioneering personalized cancer genomics and disease monitoring company focused on revolutionizing the early detection of Molecular Residual Disease (MRD). Our proprietary MRD testing platform aids patients, oncologists, clinical researchers, and drug developers in detecting residual disease post-therapy and monitoring therapeutic responses with unparalleled sensitivity and specificity.

We are seeking a seasoned in-house counsel with 10-15 years of experience to oversee all legal aspects of our operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diagnostics or life sciences, encompassing general corporate matters, contract negotiation, intellectual property, and employment practices. This position will be based at our corporate headquarters in Morrisville, NC.

Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advisory: Provide strategic legal guidance to the executive team and departments, ensuring alignment with SAGA Diagnostics' objectives while effectively managing legal and compliance risks.
  • Corporate Governance: Oversee corporate governance processes, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and manage corporate filings and records.
  • Contract Management: Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of complex agreements with commercial partners, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Intellectual Property: Develop and implement strategies for protecting the company's intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
  • Employment Practices: Advise on employment law matters, including employee relations, compliance with labor laws, and the development of company policies.
  • Dispute Resolution: Manage and resolve legal disputes and litigation, working closely with external counsel as necessary.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the company's interests.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to staff on legal and compliance matters to foster a culture of integrity and informed decision-making.
  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience: 10-15 years of legal experience, with a significant portion in the diagnostics or life sciences sector.
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of corporate law, contract negotiation, intellectual property rights, and employment law within the healthcare or life sciences industry.
  • Skills: Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Compliance: Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and a proven track record in ensuring organizational compliance.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a legal team, fostering a proactive and solutions-oriented environment.
