  • Proven track record building, leading and developing teams.
  • Executive presence and credibility with leaders, regulators and partners.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR/Business; CPHR asset.

Job description

JUST HR is recruiting for a Vice President, Human Resources to lead the people function for a growing, complex organization with a diverse workforce operating across multiple jurisdictions.

This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for HR strategy, compliance, workforce planning, organizational development, and HR operations. The VP will bring greater structure and consistency to an HR function that has grown quickly, while building the policies, systems, processes, and team capabilities needed for the next stage of growth.

The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team and will be comfortable moving between strategy and hands-on execution.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the HR function and take executive ownership of people strategy, priorities, and outcomes.
  • Partner with the CEO and senior leadership team to align workforce plans with business growth and operational requirements.
  • Assess the existing HR structure and build a capable, high-performing team across HR business partnering, payroll, and coordination functions.
  • Strengthen compliance frameworks across federal, provincial, and international jurisdictions.
  • Establish proactive monitoring and escalation processes so workforce and regulatory risks are identified and communicated early.
  • Oversee international workforce sourcing, mobilization, and cross-border HR compliance.
  • Bring specialized international workforce management activities into a coordinated and well-governed HR function.
  • Develop and implement practical HR policies, procedures, reporting, and governance practices.
  • Lead the selection, implementation, and improvement of HR systems that can support a scaling organization.
  • Manage employee and labour relations across unionized and non-unionized workforce groups, including preparation for upcoming collective bargaining cycles.
  • Build workforce planning and recruitment strategies that support corporate, operational, and project-based hiring.
  • Develop scalable talent acquisition processes to support sustained growth.
  • Lead compensation benchmarking, compensation structures, benefits, and broader total rewards strategy across different employee groups and geographies.
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, external partners, legal advisors, and internal operational teams.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, high-performance culture across a geographically distributed workforce.
Requirements
  • Significant senior leadership experience spanning HR, operations, general management, or a related function, including demonstrated ownership of people-related outcomes.
  • Proven experience building or scaling an HR function within a growing, complex, or multi-jurisdictional organization.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory environments, ideally gained in an industry with significant regulatory oversight.
  • Experience working with both unionized and non-unionized employee groups.
  • Demonstrated success building, leading, and developing teams.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to create clear processes and structure where practices are still evolving.
  • Ability to identify risk early, communicate concerns clearly, and respond effectively to regulatory or operational issues.
  • Executive presence and the ability to build credibility with senior leaders, employees, regulators, and external partners.
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial organization where priorities can change as the business grows.
  • Experience in an operationally complex, front-line industry (transportation, logistics, hospitality, aviation, marine, or mining) is an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation is an asset.
Remuneration
  • Competitive base salary of $200,000-$250,000 plus variable compensation, commensurate with experience.
