We are seeking a Vice President, Broker Distribution for our western region to develop and execute business development plans to achieve sustainable and profitable growth in our western provinces. This role provides leadership, within the context of the business development strategy, for developing and executing goals and objectives for business delivery and operational effectiveness, broker relationship management, change management, risk management and control.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute “best in class” business development plans for the western region to deliver profitable growth results consistent with objectives and commitments
  • Manage the business development function to ensure company objectives are reached - control workflow, productivity, quality of business, and quality of underwriting
  • Allocate/distribute specific sales and profitability targets and ensure that performance is tracked, reported and delivered
  • Provide broker service excellence. Develop and reach successful solutions to complex broker/customer problems.
  • Execute on the broker segmentation strategy.
  • Assess risks based upon experience, broad knowledge of industry, and expected outcomes
  • Differentiate Aviva products and approaches from competitor using technical information, advanced industry knowledge
  • Lead, coach and manage business development staff to create high performance.
  • Collaboration with Personal and Commercial Underwriting teams, Marketing and Claims team
  • Ensure the continuity, development & training of all staff.
  • Ensure that regulatory principles are embedded within all business development functions; that employees are aware of the importance of compliance; and that related issues are escalated to senior management.
  • Ensure that appropriate marketing information is developed & communicated within established guidelines and spend

What You’ll Bring

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Ten or more years of experience in P&C insurance
  • FCIP or equivalent designation is an asset
  • Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills; able to work across business lines at all levels to influence and effect change to achieve common goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid knowledge of insurance markets, distribution knowledge, and emerging trends and practices in the insurance industry
  • Strong leadership skills to direct and motivate achieving aggressive targets
  • Very strong negotiating skills and outstanding client presentation skills
  • Ability to build trust and credibility with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to engage and motivate the team and develop talent
  • Ability to create and execute plans that drive profitable business growth
  • Ability to build relationships with brokers and clients as individuals
