Qualifications

  • Registration as a Registered Animal Health Technologist or Veterinary Technician is required.
  • Experience in a veterinary clinic is an asset.

  • College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years

Responsibilities
Tasks
  • Collect samples and perform laboratory tests
  • Handle, restrain, and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery
  • Produce diagnostic radiographs
  • Assist veterinarian before, during, and after surgery
  • Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under veterinarian’s direction
  • Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian
  • Counsel clients on animal health care
  • Perform office management and clerical duties as needed
  • Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist with animal dentistry
  • Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals
  • Provide wound and bandage care
Credentials

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: Registration by a provincial, territorial, or regional association as a Registered Animal Health Technologist or Registered Veterinary Technician
