Job summary

Alta Vista Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Neurology team. In this role, you’ll support diagnostic imaging, procedures, and post-operative recovery while guiding pet parents through the care plan.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of RVT experience, familiarity with anesthesia, CRIs, epidurals and ventilators, and a calm, collaborative approach.

• Minimum 2+ years of experience as a practicing Veterinary Technician.
• Experience with, and willingness to enhance, technical skills: anesthesia, CRIs, epidurals and mechanical ventilators.
• Fast-paced environment adaptability.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a warm, collaborative approach to working with colleagues and supporting pet parents.
• You take pride in accurate charting and record-keeping.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Caseload Coordination: Organize daily bookings and prepare caseload file information for Veterinarians and the neurology team.
• Care Liaison: Facilitate prompt, transparent communication among specialty departments and pet parents, and work closely with the ICU team and treatment team, assisting as needed.
• Client Guidance: Offer compassionate support and clear explanations of hospitalization updates, discharge instructions, and home-care plans.
• Teamwork and Inpatient Support: Collaborate with technicians and medical teams to support patient monitoring, treatment workflows, and shift transitions.
• Shift Availability: Maintain flexibility across rotating day and evening shifts to meet the dynamic needs of our intensive care unit.

Alta Vista Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Centre welcomes a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Neurology team in Ottawa, Ontario.

When a pet experiences a neurological issue, having a calm and caring team makes all the difference. As an RVT in our Neurology department, you'll be the heart of our patient care. You'll partner with our specialists to guide pets safely through diagnostic imaging, procedures, and post-operative recovery, while helping worried pet parents feel informed, supported, and reassured throughout their pet's healing process.
