Job Description

The Municipal Licensing & Standards Division supports the City of Toronto by providing bylaw administration and enforcement services in areas including business licensing, property enforcement, and animal care and enforcement.

Reporting to the Manager, Animal Services, the Veterinary Technician 1 will oversee clinic and shelter operations, provide daily animal care, assist with treatments and surgeries, and coordinate outreach programs. Responsibilities include supervising staff, maintaining records, administering medications, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Key Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education from an OAVT-accredited program in Animal or Veterinary Technology.
  • Experience in animal care, shelter environments, and data management systems.
  • Registered and in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians.
  • Valid Ontario Class "D" Driver's License or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, handle animals safely, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, legislation, and safety regulations.
Additional Requirements
  • Immunization against rabies and ability to handle large animals.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to develop educational programs and train staff.
