Job summary

Chatham-Kent Veterinary Hospital Group (CK Vets) offers a veterinary externship for students in the 4th year or clinical year. Externs gain hands-on experience in gathering histories, performing exams, and developing treatment plans, with opportunities in dentistry, ultrasound, and surgery.

Participants work closely with supervising veterinarians and staff to enhance clinical skills and communication with clients. A travel/living expense stipend is available for eligible externs.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Create treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, and observe/assist or perform surgical procedures.

Chatham‑Kent Veterinary Hospital (Chatham, Ontario)

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students in their 4th or clinic year are encouraged to apply.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
