Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and the provision of exceptional service to animals and their owners. Berwick Animal Hospital is located in Berwick, NS.

Externship Responsibilities
  1. Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in:
  2. Gathering patient histories
  3. Performing physical exams
  4. Creating treatment plans
  5. Diagnostics and dentistry services
  6. Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures
  7. Medical management of patients

Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Program Details
  • Most externships last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
  • Veterinary students in their fourth or clinical year are encouraged to apply.
