Heubner-Ridder Veterinary Hospital located in Canada's prettiest town, Goderich, Ontario, offers a fantastic externship opportunity for veterinary students looking to gain practical experience in a comprehensive and supportive setting. Established in 1995, the hospital has evolved into a state-of-the-art facility featuring a full laboratory, surgical suite, dental suite, and x-ray room, among other amenities. Students will have the chance to work with dogs and cats under the guidance of experienced veterinarians. The hospital's commitment to high standards of care and cleanliness ensures a professional and educational environment.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students in their fourth or clinical year are encouraged to apply.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
