AprilVets Cole Harbour is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our growing small animal practice in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. This full-time position offers a warm, collaborative environment where staff, clients, and pets are valued.

Qualifications

• Veterinary Assistant course or equivalent experience in the veterinary field
• Prior experience in veterinary settings is desirable
• Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, procedures, and protocols
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with clients and pets
• Compassionate, empathetic, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work well within a team and contribute to a positive work culture
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Technically proficient and comfortable setting up client communications via the PIMS
• Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on veterinary medicine advances

Responsibilities

• Assist in handling animals safely and compassionately
• Prepare and maintain examination rooms and equipment
• Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of hospital environment
• Administer oral medications and treatments under supervision
• Aid in preparing patients for surgery
• Assist with setting up for patient radiographs and restrain for imaging
• Provide nutrition and husbandry care to hospitalized patients
• Monitor and record patient weights and temperatures
• Prepare surgical packs and equipment for sterilization

This is a full-time position for an experienced Veterinary Assistant.

• Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of hospital environment
• Administer oral medications and treatments under veterinary supervision
• Aid in preparing patients for surgery
• Assist with setting up for patient radiographs and efficiently restrain for imaging to be performed
• Provide nutrition and husbandry care to hospitalized patients (setting up patient kennels, ensuring cleanliness, feeding in-hospital patients)
• Monitor and record patient weights and temperatures
• Prepare surgical packs and equipment for sterilization
