Job description

Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry

Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years

Work Setting: Veterinary clinic

Tasks:

  1. Diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds and flocks through physical examinations or laboratory tests
  2. Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds or performing surgery
  3. Vaccinate animals to prevent and treat diseases
  4. Advise clients on feeding, housing, behaviour, breeding, hygiene and general care of animals
  5. Perform routine, emergency and post-mortem examinations
  6. Provide a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry and euthanasia
  7. Supervise animal health technologists and animal care workers

Supervision: 1 to 2 people

Certificates, Licences, Memberships, and Courses:

  1. Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Certification
  2. Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities
