Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) veterinarians provide daily clinical care to our large population of Old World (rhesus and cynomolgus macaques) and New World (common marmosets) monkeys, as well as provide research support to scientists performing biomedical and behavioral research.
WNPRC veterinarians have the opportunity to utilize cutting edge clinical and surgical techniques and equipment to provide exemplary care to captive nonhuman primates. The WNPRC houses nonhuman primates across three locations: the central location in the heart of the UW campus in downtown Madison, the WIMR facility located near the UW Hospital, and the Blue Mounds Quarantine (BMQ) facility located 30 minutes southwest of Madison.

Required
Terminal Degree
DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited school of Veterinary Medicine, or successful completion of ECFVG program.
* At least one year of experience as a Veterinarian strongly preferred.
* Prior supervisory experience preferred.
* Experience with nonhuman primates in a research setting highly desired.

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin at the time of start date.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

* University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment. This position is an ongoing position that will require continuous work eligibility. UW-Madison is not an E-Verify employer, and therefore, is not eligible to employ F1 STEM OPT Extension participants. If you are selected for this position, you must provide proof of work authorization and eligibility to work.
* Required on-call duties will include weekend, evening and holiday work.
* Applicant must be comfortable working with nonhuman primates, infectious diseases, and chemicals/medications in a medical research setting, and wearing various required personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Must be TB negative.
* Allergies to animals must be controlled by medication.
* Applicant will be required to have a measles titer within the first week of employment. Depending on the results of the blood test, applicant may need to be immunized.
* Must possess a valid driver's license that meets standards of UW Risk Management in order to operate WNPRC vehicles.
* A pre-employment check of applicant driving record will be required.
* Criminal background check is required.
* A one-year period of evaluation will be required.
* This is considered an essential position and, as such, applicants must be willing to fulfill the duties of the position.

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is one of seven federally supported National Primate Research Centers and the only one in the Midwest. WNPRC's mission is to increase the understanding of basic primate biology and to improve human health and quality of life through research. To accomplish this, the WNPRC helps discover treatments, preventions and cures for human disease; generates new knowledge of primate biology, from the molecular and whole animal levels to the understanding of primate ecosystems; facilitates research progress by providing expertise, resources and training to scientists worldwide; and collects primate information and disseminates to the research community and to the public.
