Job Title: Vessel Cook

Are you a talented and passionate cook ready to embark on an exciting culinary adventure across the inland waterways? American Commercial Barge Line is seeking a skilled Vessel Cook to join our maritime team and delight our crew with delicious and nourishing meals.

American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) is one of the largest and most diversified marine transportation companies in the U.S. Since 1915, we have been providing the nation with economical, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation, starting with coal movement on the Kentucky River. Responsibilities
  1. Create diverse, nutritionally balanced menus catering to various dietary needs.
  2. Prepare and cook meals, snacks, and baked goods, ensuring quality, taste, and presentation.
  3. Follow strict food safety and hygiene protocols to ensure crew well-being.
  4. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the galley, keeping kitchen equipment in good condition.
  5. Foster a positive dining environment and accommodate special requests when possible.
  6. Collaborate with the vessel master to manage budgets.
  7. Travel to designated port locations as assigned.
Qualifications

You will need to have:

  • ServeSafe Certification
  • Proven experience as a cook or chef for 3+ years
  • Ability to remain on vessel for 28-day rotating assignments
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card by the time of interview. Apply here.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of maritime catering and provisioning
  • Strong culinary skills with adaptability to various cuisines
  • Understanding of food safety standards and practices
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to work in confined, dynamic environments
  • Commitment to safety and crew well-being
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous maritime catering experience
  • Culinary degree or relevant certification
