Job description

Recreation and Culture Services builds vibrant, healthy, active and connected communities by providing facilities and programs that give all Barrie residents an opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Venue Management, the Venue Technician position is responsible for planning and administering all technical services for assigned events and performances at the Five Points Theatre, the Georgian Theatre and Meridian Place. Specifically, this position is responsible for the set-up, operation and maintenance of professional theatre equipment and tools and operating sound and lighting system. Additionally, this position also provides technical advice to renters of the theatre facilities. Overall, this position plays an integral role in the successful delivery of shows, events and performances by overseeing the technical requirements.

Education
  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Theatre Arts-Technical Production, Theatre Production or related discipline

Experience
  • One (1) year of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities in a theatre or production company work environment
  • Demonstrated experience with theatre audio and lighting systems
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • General knowledge of set building, design and related safety requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and repair lighting and audio equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures and use reason and judgment to develop conclusions or solutions to problems
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines or peak period workloads
  • Ability to exert effort to lift, push, pull, or carry objects for long periods of time
  • Thorough customer service and communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays, as required

Other Important Information

Location: Five Points Theatre and Georgian Theatre

Hours: The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2025 pay range: Pay Level: Level 5, Yearly Salary: $67,371.20 to $80,683.20, Hourly Pay Rate: $32.39 to $38.79
