To expand our capacity in the team of investment managers with sector expertise, we are seeking an entrepreneurial person to join our team in Toronto with outstanding knowledge in Industrial IT and B2B Software solutions. This represents a unique opportunity to become part of a global team, expand our activities, and create a tangible and sustainable impact.

What you will do

  1. Analyze and evaluate trends, products, and solutions in the broad field of industrial IT and B2B software for various industrial applications, focusing on cross-industry software solutions that enhance productivity, sustainability, and operational efficiency, including supply chain management, workforce optimization, R&D, product development, and ESG/emissions reporting.
  2. Use your technical knowledge and networks to anticipate customer needs, identify challenges and growth opportunities, and prepare investment strategy recommendations for these sectors.
  3. Map market sub-sectors to identify promising startups in your sector.
  4. Source and analyze startups from technological, IP, product, business model, and operational perspectives, and prepare investment recommendations as part of a deal team.
  5. Coordinate and perform due diligence on technology, product, market, business strategy, and management as part of a deal team.
  6. Support portfolio companies and monitor their progress on key performance indicators.
  7. Build and expand Emerald’s network of industry and technology experts.
  8. Travel as needed for due diligence, conferences, and liaising with portfolio companies and strategic investors.
  9. Engage with and maintain relationships with key strategic investors, supporting their open innovation and investment activities.

What you will need

  1. Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or similar.
  2. Post-graduate qualification like an MBA is a plus.
  3. Hands-on experience with cutting-edge industrial software technologies, including AI and Machine Learning, with understanding of their impact on industry.
  4. Several years of industry experience, either in startups or large corporations, with insight into building and scaling software solutions.
  5. Experience in collaborations between startups and established companies is preferred.
  6. Venture investing experience is a strong plus.
  7. Curious personality with strong analytical skills across technical, commercial, and strategic areas.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across disciplines.
  9. Energetic self-starter capable of working in a dynamic environment.
  10. Proficiency in English and ideally one or two other languages.
