Job summary

British Car Auctions Ltd. is seeking a Diagnostics Technician to assess, recommend and complete mechanical repairs to enhance the value of wholesale remarketing vehicles.

The role supports the site operations and driving teams across multiple sites or on road assignments. The ideal candidate will be qualified to Level 2 or 3 (City and Guilds/NVQ/IMI), possess a full UK or EU driving licence, and have prior experience in vehicle or mechanical technician roles.

Qualifications

  • Must have City and Guilds, NVQ or IMI qualification to Level 2 or 3.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Experience as a vehicle technician or related mechanical roles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete mechanical repairs to approved methods (Cambelts, Clutches, wheel alignment).
  • Ensure repairs are completed within deadlines and prioritized for efficiency.
  • Identify when repairs are not possible and suggest alternatives.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and clean workspaces.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and document work accurately.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by manager.

Main purpose of the role:

As a Diagnostics Technician you will assess, recommend and complete mechanical repairs to enhance the value of wholesale remarketing vehicles.

Your key responsibilities will be:
  • Complete mechanical repairs in line with approved methods. Mechanical jobs e.g. Cambelts, Clutches, Wheel alignment, General wear and tear MOT Failure work.
  • Work productively ensuring repairs are completed within the deadline and work prioritised to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Highlight when repairs are not possible, or an alternative solution is required.
  • A high attention to detail and to escape where repairs could be completed more cost effectively.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping and cleanliness within workspaces.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are rigorously followed and documentation completed accurately.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by your manager.
To be successful, you’ll bring some of the following experience with you:
  • Qualified to City and Guilds, NVQ or IMI qualified to Level 2 or 3
  • Full UK or EU Driving Licence with the ability to drive automatic and manual cars
  • Previous experience as a Vehicle Technician, Mechanical Technician, Road Tester, Mechanical Inspector, Mobile Technician, Roadside /Recovery Mechanic, Car Mechanic, HGV Mechanic
