What you can expect to do here:
- Plan, oversee, and scope vegetation surveys for data collection and analysis.
- Conduct field assessments per industry standards, prepare detailed reports for various sectors, and support training of junior staff.
- Travel across Canada for fieldwork in remote environments, especially during summer.
- Implement safety programs, ensuring adherence to safety standards.
- Identify environmental constraints related to developments, including wetlands, vegetation, and species.
- Collaborate with clients, team members, and agencies to meet project goals.
- Mentor staff on fieldwork, data collection, quality assurance, and reporting.
- Analyze ecological data, providing insights aligned with project objectives.
- Prepare and review technical reports for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to project proposals and budgets with technical input.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Botany, Biology, Ecology, or related fields, with wetlands focus.
- 2-5 years of plant identification experience, preferably in prairie, wetland, and boreal ecosystems.
- 2-5 years of consulting experience as an Ecologist or in an environmental role.
- Basic GIS skills and familiarity with spatial analysis.
- Experience in wetland mapping and classification.
- Proficiency in imagery interpretation for wetlands and vegetation types in western Canada.
- Understanding of provincial and federal environmental regulations, including Alberta Wetland Policy (asset).
- Experience working on multidisciplinary projects.
- Eligibility for registration with relevant professional associations (e.g., P.Biol., P.Ag., R.T.Biol.) in Saskatchewan or Alberta; designation as an Authenticating Professional in Alberta is a plus.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license (minimum Class 5).
