We are seeking a VDC Designer with strong REVIT experience and knowledge of multiple systems, code understanding, and routing optimization to join our Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver team!

The responsibilities of the Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Designer include understanding and developing Engineering Consultant designs into fabricable, installable, and coordinated virtual models representing site installation.

The VDC Designer will be responsible for designing and modeling at least two of the following disciplines using virtual construction technologies:

• Mechanical & Domestic Distribution systems
• Gravity & venting systems
• Ductwork Systems
• Mechanical room systems with Spooling drawing output support
• Sleeving / Embeds / Trimble

The VDC Designer uses modeling and coordination software to route and reroute disciplines among architectural, structural, and building elements. Routing must be optimized to reduce costs, ease installation, follow relevant codes, improve design, and represent the trades' intent.

This role involves close contact with the VDC Project Lead and the Project Superintendent to ensure work aligns with project strategies.

• Model 3D building systems to improve concepts shown in consultant drawings, with QAQC steps for at least one discipline; systems must meet code requirements and be installable efficiently to minimize material and labor costs.
• Issue complete paper/pdf drawings to the site team, with QAQC steps.
• Maintain copies of drawings and track changes in the database.
• Contribute to profitability and competitive advantage through VDC technologies, ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
• Oversee Fittings Libraries and report incorrect fittings to the VDC Manager.
• Create final sketches of proposed drawings, checking dimensions, materials, and relations among parts and structures.
• Sketch rough layouts, compute angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, and clearances.
• Work cross-functionally to support overall project timing.
• Develop and implement workflows transitioning from CAD to CAM to streamline fabrication and installation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :

• 3+ years of REVIT experience for Mechanical projects preferred
• Post-secondary Diploma in Mechanical or Construction Technology or relevant field
• Experience in the mechanical contracting trade (HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, etc.)
• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents
• Experience in the construction industry or related trade
• Problem-solving skills in engineering, manufacturing, or construction environments using design tools.
