Qualifications

Shannex is the operating partner for the transitional care centre on behalf of Nova Scotia Health. You will have an opportunity to work in a facility with a purpose and design dedicated to providing care to NSH patients in central zone, who no longer require hospital care, but need services before they can safely return to their home and community.

We are searching for a part-time Utility Worker to join our new Transitional Health team based in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

The Utility Worker is responsible for efficiently cleaning and sanitizing distribution carts and enclosed food pans and returning them to their appropriate areas; supporting production personnel in the efficient cleaning of pots, pans, and equipment.

The transitional care model supports NSH patients/families who require additional time, services, and support to transition back to home/community, by providing an alternate space with intentional programming, building design, and resource allocation to increase the probability of returning to their previous living situation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepares pot machine and flight machine for washing.
  • Performs temperature checks on equipment and fridges a minimum of 3 times per day. Monitors temperatures on washing equipment to ensure that proper sanitization is occurring.
  • Cleans carts on return from facilities and ensures carts are clean for panners; cleans and stacks pans and delivers to panning room, unloads clean pans into appropriate work stations.
  • Stores sanitized carts in designated storage area.
  • Fills requisition orders on days that receivers are not scheduled.
  • Unloads bins from delivery trucks as required.
  • Follows safety, environmental and infection control practices as per facility policies.
  • Assists other areas of the kitchen as required.

Requirements Include:

The selected candidate will have a High School Diploma or equivalent, CPR and Emergency First Aid certification, Basics Food Safety Training/Food Handlers Course, and cleaning and/or other experience in kitchens. You will be service-minded, results-oriented, and positive towards change and innovation. You will be a team player who works collaboratively to deliver results and also have the ability to work autonomously. In addition, the selected candidate will have:

  • Essential secretarial skills, a strong sense of responsibility and confidentiality.

Asset: Previous experience working with seniors in a Retirement Living or Long Term Care environment.
