Position Overview

As a Utility Management Planner/Utility Forest Technician, you will provide detailed vegetation management workloads and prescriptions for utility companies and develop work manifests for line clearance tree crews, managing vegetation along transmission and distribution rights of way.

You will support our clients by delivering accurate work instructions and best practices, offering cost-effective solutions for vegetation management.

Job Duties
  1. Patrol and assess right-of-way vegetation, translating operational plans into GIS for field execution.
  2. Review and understand utility customer needs.
  3. Create vegetation management prescriptions and schedules for tree clearing, mechanical vegetation control, herbicide application, and danger tree removals to enhance system reliability and cost efficiency.
  4. Compile assessment data and plans into computer and GIS systems for execution.
  5. Coordinate pre-operation activities, including permitting, liaising with agencies, clients, and contractors, and property owner notifications.
  6. Conduct site audits and spot checks to verify work compliance with management plans.
  7. Serve as a contact point for utility customers near work sites.
  8. Act as a forestry problem solver to maintain safe and reliable power.
  9. Inform stakeholders about upcoming work and address their questions.
Qualifications
  1. University degree in forestry, environmental science, or related field preferred; college diploma also acceptable.
  2. 3+ years’ experience in arboriculture, vegetation management, forestry, or utility line clearing.
  3. Certifications such as ISA Certified Arborist or Utility Tree Trimmer preferred; other relevant certifications considered assets.
  4. Knowledge of forestry and utility vegetation management methods.
  5. Ability to identify vegetation, tree species, weeds, danger trees, and understanding of plant growth.
  6. Basic knowledge of hydroelectric power systems and utility network mapping.
  7. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  8. Ability to work safely independently and in teams; willingness to learn.
  9. GIS application knowledge is a plus.
  10. Valid driver’s license, clean record, and ability to travel across Canada.
Additional Information
  1. Shift rotations vary, including 5 on 2 off, 10 on 4 off, 15 on 6 off.
  2. 10-hour workdays with potential overtime; various shift schedules.
  3. Per Diem, fully covered accommodations, and travel expenses.
