Job summary

The District of Saanich is seeking a skilled Utility Operator III in the Public Works Storm and Wastewater section to coordinate installation, repair, inspection, and testing of wastewater and stormwater systems. This permanent full-time CUPE Local 2011 position involves field work, safety, and coordination with internal and external contacts.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
• EOCP Level I Certification in Wastewater Collection or Water Distribution.
• Three years of pipefitting experience in water or wastewater systems.
• Knowledge of field GIS software.
• Traffic Control Certificate.
• Confined-space entry training.
• Experience directing others is a plus.
• Spill Response Training and CCTV coding may be required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and review work to meet schedules and performance standards.
• Investigate system malfunctions and determine repairs.
• Maintain maintenance and testing records.
• Operate CCTV equipment for inspections and analysis.
• Prepare reports and liaise with internal/external contacts and the public.
• Work around creeks and waterways following environmental protocols.
• Coordinate spill-response activities as required.
