Job summary

The City of Brooks is actively seeking a Utility Operator in the Utilities Services Department to operate a hydrovac/flusher truck and maintain underground piping. This full-time, union position requires safety focus and the ability to work with minimal supervision across wastewater and storm systems.

Responsibilities include maintaining the flushing schedule, performing preventive maintenance, operating cameras, and ensuring proper traffic control at work sites.

Qualifications

• Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid class 3 driver’s licence with Q endorsement.
• Clean driver’s abstract and Standard First Aid.
• Confined Space Certificate, H2S Certificate, Ground Disturbance Certificate, Equipotential Bonding Certificate.
• Flag Person Certification and Fall Protection required.
• Ability to operate computer systems related to wastewater operations.
• Capable of working independently with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Operate hydrovac/flusher truck to maintain underground piping.
• Flush sewer and storm lines and maintain flushing schedule.
• Perform preventive maintenance on Hydrovac/Flusher unit per manual.
• Ensure traffic/pedestrian controls are in place at the work site.
• Report conditions to Utility Foreman and work with minimal supervision.

The City of Brooks requires one (1) Utility Operator, in the Utilities Services Department. This is a full-time permanent and union position.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

This position operates hydrovac/flusher truck to maintain and expose underground piping as related to the Utility Department and flushes sewer and storm lines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ensures proper preventive maintenance of the wastewater and storm collection system.
2. Operates skillfully and competently the hydrovac/flusher truck.
3. Maintains related records for flushing schedule.
4. Maintains equipment according to approved standards and procedures.
5. Operates equipment including large equipment as assigned.
6. Works shift work as assigned.
7. Must be able to work with little to no supervision.
8. Reports condition of the City’s infrastructure to the Utility Foreman.
9. Ensures proper traffic/pedestrian control is in place for work site.
10. Performs preventive maintenance on Hydrovac/Flusher unit as in Maintenance Manual.
11. Must be able to improve flushing program.
12. Must be able to run sewer camera to observe condition of piping.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
